I am pleased to announce I am to be part of an all-women exhibition at Glyndebourne with Gallery 94. The exhibition is called Forces of Nature and is available to view online Saturday 19th June to the 31st August 2021.

When I was invited by Glyndebourne to be part of the Forces of Nature exhibition, we were a country in total lockdown.

For over a year my garden became a world to inhabit, observing what happened there became the focus for my paintings.

My daughters returned home, and the garden held them. Paper lanterns swung in the breeze and they exchanged secrets in hidden corners, wondering when they might be set free.

The moon bathed them, and the sun-speckled light let in some promise.

Spring arrived and the Magnolia whispered. I couldn’t quite hear it and it lured me closer. Standing underneath its strong petals I felt alive after the long winter; I painted its conversation until the frost took it away and I continued inside the studio. It wouldn’t stay silent; whisper, whisper. I painted the poetic sound.

The paintings for Glyndebourne, and most of my work for over the past 18 months, are about transformative moments where nature and human interaction create an other-worldliness, and reflect the strange reality imposed at this particular time.

It has been an interesting journey to observe these young women and translate their ways of being during a time when they would normally be living a very different life. Using nature as metaphor for human feelings or nature’s ability to transport and heal in times of crisis.

This summer there is a greater sense of freedom and for many, new challenges dealing with our post lockdown world. I for one am longing to see some paintings in the flesh and would very much like my own to be seen too!!
