Chichester Art School for Young People

Art Classes in Chichester for children and young people aged 11 – 18

 

Alternate WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY EVENINGS, and SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

 

“In January ‘04 we set up the ‘Chichester Art School for Young People’, and were overwhelmed by the positive response! We believe that young people who love making Art need to be able to develop their talents outside school just as others might learn the piano or guitar. We have prepared a series of projects that will give pupils a chance develop their artistic skills in a variety of materials and styles.” – Jayne Sandys-Renton.

Days & Times:

  1. Wednesdays OR Thursdays after-school: 5.00 – 7.00pm, alternate weeks OR
  2. Holiday ART classes: 11am – 4pm; (Dates to be fixed).
  • Wednesday and Thursday classes are ongoing, and children are expected to attend regularly.
  • Waiting lists are in operation for all classes.

 

 

Costs: Costs include all materials, occasional life model (clothed), light refreshments etc.

  • 2 hour session: £15 per session, payable in advance.
  • Holiday classes: 5 hours @ £35.

 

 

Venue:

  • University of Chichester, ‘artOne’ Art workshops (silver building next to top car park), Bishop Otter Campus, College Lane, Chichester. (Note Car Park rules on entry. There is a 10 minute drop-off permitted)

 

 

Class size:

  • average, 10 young people per group.

 

 

Wear:

  • Rough clothing and shoes that won’t matter being splattered in permanent paint.

 

 

Art School Tutors:

  • Jayne Sandys-Renton, MA, BA (hons) Fine Art. Jayne specialises in Drawing and Painting.
  • Tim Sandys-Renton, MA (RCA) Fine Art, Tim specialises in drawing and sculpture, and is Senior Lecturer at University of Chichester.

What we offer:

  • Fun ways of Drawing & Painting;
  • Improvement of skills for GCSE;
  • Large scale and expressive work;
  • Freedom to try out new styles;

Examples of projects:

  • Observational & Life Drawing. How to depict expressively in line and tone what you see; Including Life (from clothed model). Some large scale in charcoal, focusing on mark making.
  • Painting. How to use acrylic paint and mixed media. From basic colour theory through to expressive use of colour, composition, texture, tone. Some large scale.
  • Sculpture. Plaster & mixed media.
  • Artists: Activities will include looking at contemporary and traditional art works, developing an understanding of different artists work.

Payment and cancellation policy:

1) We always assume that pupils will regularly attend the Art School programme (alternate weeks, days as published), until we are informed that they are not.

2) Parents must inform the school of any changes to attendance (i.e. withdrawals). By reserving a place you accept liability to pay fully, unless sufficient warning has been given (3 days minimum)

3) Payment for each half term is requested in advance.

4) Missed classes cannot be reimbursed.

  • Feb (not 10/11 as have exhibition to work on), 24/25
  • March 10/11,  24/25
  • April (not 7/8 as Easter hols),  21/22 – in the sculpture room.
  • May 5/6,  19/20 – both in sculpture room as the Uni Degree Show is going up or open.
  • June 2/3,  16/17, & 30th
  • July 1st,  14/15.
